(This interlude occurs between On the Hunt... & The Rabbit Hole)
Failure was not an option at this point.
When their operatives failed to respond, a quick scan showed them unconscious or dead. The team leader was a veteran of many of these types of missions, but even he did not have the success of Ramachi in his time. Still they should have had no problems with a half-trained girl and her trained guard. The sedative should have kept him out of action for hours if not days. What went wrong?
"Commander, we have a launch from the station. It's them."
The commander watched the ship streak out of the station followed closely by another. "Follow them." He narrowed his eyes and scanned. "The pilot of the piggy bank is unreadable, get me an ID on the ship!" Unknowns can be deadly.
"Scanner's ID it as the Black Pearl." There was a note of dread in comm officer's voice just as the second ship turned towards them.
"Notify Primary." The commander continued coolly. One defect can be handled, "Tactical, lock on to the Pearl."
"Sir, They've entered the Slipstream!" The commander looked. The boy had taken a risk by not clearing the system. Ramachi has him trained well. The ship was rocked by turbo laser fire.
"Oh .. no you do not!" Peripherals scans screamed that a ship had a lock on the Pearl. Silas pushed his baby hard, nose up and then to port. The readouts scanned for data he smirked a little. You want some, come get some. He jammed his engines into action, unleashing a release of phased power. It wasn't too common in a ship the size of the Pearl but common knowledge stated that the ship class did lend itself to the larger engines. The energy threw his ship forward, closer to the ship that had the Pearl in her sights. Another scanner announced Daniel and Moira had entered slipstream. He'd spank Daniel later for jumping into stream too soon. Maybe.
Bearing down on the larger ship at this unexpected speed, Silas had about five seconds surprise time to do two things.
One, he activated a system he liked to call Ghost. For about fifteen second this system projected a life sized image of his own ship in two places on standard ship monitors. It was usually enough to confuse people, especially people not used to tracking the 'deaf'.
Two, he targeted his torpedoes and fired without the use of targeting systems that took too long to come online. He had practice shooting 'from the hip' and seldom missed.
The comm officer did not have more that a moment to inform primary that the target escaped when the ship was rocked by the torpedoes.
"Primary we are under att..."
And the second torpedoes blew the crap out of their engines. _________________ "How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?" ~Sherlocke Holmes, The Sign of the Four |

The Pearl banked hard, coming around as the wave of energy from the explosion rocked the nearby area. The station's shielding would protect it and any ships within. His was not. He felt the disorientation as his ship was tossed head over ass, hands struggled to maintain control of the handle. It was a few moments before Silas managed to right his ship and get the hell out of the system.
But once on his way, he entered the stream for a specific destination.
Figures they would head to Genesis Beta.
Once he was in the stream for a bit, the comm buzzed. It was a familiar number. She was trying to reach him now.
He studied the number and then shook his head. Figures she would have a modified comm that could reach through the stream distortion. Silas flipped the comm open and pressed it to his ear. "Won't ask how you got the number because I probably don't want to know, right? Where are you?"
She shook her head and smiled, "The Emyrus on Genesis Beta. We're in one piece. Sounds like the spanking was delivered."
Her gaze rested on Daniel. She wasn't going to tell Silas just yet. Let him figure it out. "Security is still tight as ever."
"Of course it was. About you, good. Glad to hear it." He glanced at his chron and then shook his head. Would take him a while to get there. "Sit tight, enjoy the hotel. I hear they have really good pizza." He was yanking her chain, of course. Silas leaned back and sighed. He was relieved that she was all right.
She laughed softly at his comment. "I'm glad to arrived when you did, big brother. I'll have a room waiting for you."
"Mmmhmm. I'm known for my timing." And his hair pulling and his mouth but that would be too much information for his chaste little sister. Silas let his fingers keep wandering then murmured, "I'm glad you uhh are doing so well."
She gave and unseen shrug, "As well as can be expected. Things have been busy. I had just gotten back from Gamma Minor when the hospital happened."
"Yeah, I heard about that. I got some information on that end too. I'll share when I get there." He didn't feel like chancing the open airwaves with that sort of information.
"Alright, we'll see you then." She paused for a moment, "Love you, bro."
He actually looked at the comm for a moment before he pressed it against his ear to reply. "I love you too, Moira. Always have." He couldn't believe she'd said that. He figured she'd been with their father long enough to be poisoned against him. "Lay low." Then he clicked off. He stared at the comm for another few moments before he tossed it aside.
Huh. Go figure. _________________ "How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?" ~Sherlocke Holmes, The Sign of the Four |
