"Doctor? No no! Leuni No! You gonna give me a heart attack!" the elderly woman's voice was full of spite.
"Nana Please... You have to go. Pops needs someone who can care for him.. the right way. I can't do it any more. Please, Nana..." Leuni pleaded with the woman.
It seemed all in vain. The elderly Etonese crossed her arms in a stubborn fashion, dark hues narrowed, jaw set and lips pursed together. She looked away for only a moment, yet when her gaze returned to Leuni it was as if she were looking at someone she didn't know... with brows crunched in confusion.
"Who are you?"
Leuni sighed. Ever since her mother suffered the heart attack, her mind would wander and even forget things.. some short term, others long term. The terran disease, Ahlzheimer's, was a plague even to Etonese. It affected other races too often, easily written off as merely old age.
"I'm your daughter, Leuni... don't you remember?"
The elderly woman held a blank stare for a long while. It was obvious Leuni had just lost the woman to the random thoughts that no doubt plagued her wandering mind.
This is how it is for the young bartender. She had little life beyond this. She worked, she came home to take care of her diseased mother and her father who was bedridden. Both parents were bedridden. It was hard for Leuni to keep a hired person around to watch over them. Most wanted room and board. She couldn't even afford that in the small space she called home. She didn't even have her own bedroom, the couch was her bed.
Leuni gently patted her mother's hand, then turned away to prepare some medicines. She was waiting for a call from Sha'uri letting her know appointments were made and that she could finally try to get some better help for her kin. Leun couldn't handle it any longer.
Tears stung her eyes as she picked up the communication unit and called one Camron Moriku.... |

A couple of days... Didn't they say a few days? Why is that blasted thing ringing???
Blankets flew off in a flurry as Camron moved to answer the call. It wasn't even the next day yet, or so he thought. A glance at the clock confirmed his thoughts. It hadn't even been six hours since he left Crescents and only about seven since he last saw Sha'uri and Leuni. The identification of the caller was the latter.
"Hello Leun. Do you know what time it is? What do you want.. is something wrong?" |

She was shocked as she looked at the clock, four in the morning, and she realized that only a few hours had passed, not a day. It was almost four in the morning. What was she thinking?
"I'm sorry, Cam.. " the sniff in the pause told much. "I just... I dunno. My mother...she's just so not right anymore!"
Amazing how the tears came, almost prompted into motion just by the sound of someone listening. She was too choked up to talk anymore. This wasn't how she thought this would go, yet she couldn't deny the release. She wasn't going to anymore. |

He heard those tears in her voice and immediately changed his tones to soothing ones.
"Oh, whoa... What happened, Leun? Do you want me to come there?"
It was out before he could stop himself. It was the middle of the night and he had to work the day shift. Who needed sleep, right?
"Just say the word, I'll be there." |

It took her a moment to gather the ability to utter an intelligible sound.. her voice shook as she whispered and it almost cracked from emotion. Just one thing was spoken...
"Word." |

"On my way."
Years of military training kept his tones in check, though firmly reassuring. It was like stepping into a job that needed to be done... all business. Yet in truth he was concerned. Leuni never cried, never even hardly lost her temper that he had ever seen. So to hear her like this was distrubing and cause for some concern.
He hung up the communication and got himself dressed in a hurry ... sweats, jacket and running shoes. He didn't bother with the shirt just to save him that much time. The tall half Rumon/Etonese ran the whole way there even though it was up three levels and over about six.... a couple of miles worth put on his tread.
He had only been there once before when he escorted her home after a rough night in the bar. A couple of mercenary types made vague comments akin to threats against the two Etonese employees ... Leuni and Camron. He wouldn't let her take a chance walking home alone. It was the long- ditch the trailer -route that night just to be sure they weren't following.
Today it was all of ten minutes from the time he hung up communication before his knock was on Leuni's door.
"Leun.. it's me, Camron." |

Leun hung up the phone allowing herself to have a whole three minutes of a good cry. It would've been longer, but the wail of her mother pierced through and doused any thoughts of self-expression.
"Water! I asked fo water an hour ago! What kind of place you running?! You gonna chase every body away with service like that! I want my water now!!!"
What else could the bartender do but rise to the occasion? Not a minute went by before Leun was placing a cold glass of water into her mother's hand.
"Right here, Mother... right here's your water." She sounded calm even though her nerves were about shot.
"You're very kind." the elder seemed to do a 180-degree turn around, becoming that sweet old lady Leun had once known as her mother. The elder one drank thirstily, handed Leun the glass and laid back into her bed as if someone just shut out the lights... she closed her eyes and fell asleep even before the knock came to the door.

She was still staring at her mother, trying to remember things from her childhood, like how her mother would sit by her bed when she was sick.. just like Leun was doing for her now. Funny how the tables turned...
Leun quietly got up, casting a look at her father, who had slept through the entire thing. His hearing had all but gone... just as well she thought as she moved to answer the door. Violet hues peered sadly up at Camron from her short stature -- who oddly was similarly dressed - sweats, jacket plus a shirt he didn't have. She was barefoot, though.
She said nothing, fearing another burst of tears... but just stepped aside, looked down at her barefoot toes and waited for him to pass inside before she closed the door. A hand motioned to the couch a.k.a. her bed. It was just to the right of the door along the wall. Her place was small with only one bedroom, a living room with a kitchenette area, a bathroom and a pantry. |

He took in her attire with an approving gaze, and was ready with a quick witted comment until he realized her disposition. Sadly sweet. Something in the way she moved reminded him of his wife. He pushed those thoughts to the far reaches of his mind as his gaze automatically gave the room an inspecting sweep for layout and content. It was something he always did whenever he came to some place new... something the military drilled in his head.
He stepped inside and moved to stand in front of the couch, the sweep of his gaze ended on her. She was still looking at her toes... dainty toes he noted and was careful not to be stepping on them.
Lifting a hand to gently cup her chin, his fingers softly nudged her to look at him. "Are you all right? Come on, Leun... Tell me what's going on."
He gestured his other arm open for a hug. It seemed to him that she appeared in need of one. "... and I got one of these if you need one, too." |

Most men would've found themselves regretting they gave an offer like that, finding the nearest item to her hand suddenly embedded in their foreheads ... or something like that. But with Cam, he seemed sincere enough in the giving that she didn't feel like he was just trying to proposition her. It seemed that once the faucet was turned on, it was suddenly hard to get them to shut off and stay off...
Her frown was strained and she shook her head. It seemed like she wanted to speak but couldn't get herself to open her mouth. She tried to fight them for only a moment, face scrunching up even more with the effort, but even she knew it was fighting a loosing battle. A new set of tears welled up and she practically dove into his arms. Though she didn't try too hard, she couldn't have stopped herself from crying even if she wanted to. They came... hard and fast.
Years of frustration that had been bottled up suddenly came spilling out of her. When Leun needed to cry...which was truly not often.... she really needed to cry. And, Wow... she cried!
Child like, face burried in his chest, she clung to him while the sobs rolled in. Nothing else mattered for several moments. The station could've been on fire and she wouldn't have cared. All she knew was the overwhelming sense of release that she was feeling, and Cam's arms around her as if warding off the rest of the world from her. |

What else could he do but wrap his arms around her and hold her up while she couldn't hold herself?
Camron knew that kind of cry, that deep seeded soul wrenching intensity that crawled up out the darkest depths of a person. He knew that cry all too well having experienced it himself when his own beloved had died. He had no one to cling to then. It was sobering for him, bringing back that memory. He had to fight off a few tears himself.
Slowly he coaxed her to the couch to sit down with her, rubbing her arms and back trying to comfort her. He knew that was important stuff at a time like this. He also didn't know what to say and knew he was inadequet to suggest anything. This was something he knew nothing of. He waited until her sobs subsided.
"You know, If I add a little soap to my jacket, this would be a great way to get it washed...."
He grinned gently at her, trying to get her to crack a smile, yet didn't want to seem cold either.
"I know you're worried about them... but I'm worried about you. I just don't know what to do, Leun. Do you want me to call someone for you?"
He wasn't sure Leun had a boyfriend, though he heard rumors there was someone in her life like that. But would a boyfriend be the right one to call?
"Sha'uri, maybe?"
After the three of them had the conversation to do something with Leun's parents, and considering the woman was not only a Halcyon but a nurse, he couldn't think of a better person to pull into this right now.
"Sha'uri would know what to do." |

It was the best cry she'd had in a long time... not that crying was a good thing to do. It was just a lot of the frustration and tension had been released. It was the kind of emotional drain she had needed to do for far too long. She was drained, exhausted ... her eyes were really red and puffy by now and her nose was running. She sniffed and grabbed hand towel somewhere along the way to the couch.
It was amazing how he was making her feel at ease about the whole thing, not embarrassed about breaking down like that. It was ... comfortable. So the crying was eased away in a more fulfilling sense because he let her cry on her own terms instead of trying to pull her out of it before she was ready. Blowing her nose, she sniffled and relaxed in Camron's arms as he rubbed her, easing away those sobs and bouts of shakes. She was almost to the point of sleeping, actually, when his voice brought her back around to reality.

Blink. It was the last comment she had been prepared for him to make. Camron was cracking a joke? That alone got her to look up at him and even crack a smile.
Not that Cam was a boring sort of person, just quiet in a brooding observance within the bar area. He wasn't always in the bar when she was, but she had always felt the safest with him around. Like now, safe and comforted.
And now embarrassed because she hadn't realized just how wet she got him! She felt it under her hand as it came up to rest on his chest for leverage/support while she had lifted her head to look at him.
"Eh..sorry, Cam."
She looked down for a moment, then towards her parents room. The smile faded with the reminder of why she was crying.
| CM wrote: | | "I know you're worried about them... but I'm worried about you. I just don't know what to do, Leun. Do you want me to call someone for you?" |
Her gaze came back to his. For a moment, she felt a pang of guilt sitting there with another man while he comforted her. Yet, it was obvious to her Cam wasn't there to take advantage of any situation, but was trying to be there as a friend. She nodded to his suggestion and sniffed again. Her nose was still running and stuffy from the crying.
"Yeah, Sha'uri." She glanced to the com device to let him know where it was. "Would you?"
She lifted the hand towel and blew her nose. Even she knew it was time to give in to her own stubbornness. It was just that much easier to do that among friends. Sha'uri was the perfect person to call... why she hadn't done so before was a question she pondered. Why had she called him to begin with and not called... someone else?
Again, she blew her nose. |

He nodded. Strong fingers gently squeezed her arm and gave it one more assuring rub. Gently shifting her from him, he got up and moved to the comm unit, sending a texted message to Sha'uri and marking it urgent need immediate attention. He didn't want Leun to overhear him.
Message read:
Hey, Sha'uri.. it's Camron. Leuni broke. She's pretty shaken. Need you to come with something to steady her. And maybe a solution for her parents. either way, need you here at her place asap. Let's just do this if we can instead of waiting. really don't want her to be alone.... please reply.
With the message sent, he waited a few minutes to see if She would reply.... |

Sha'uri was meditating in her quarters when the communication came in. Yes, that early in the morning she was often up, though she never used the holographic room because she didn't want to leave Alex alone. So her habit was to be near... in the next room.
She had the ringer set up special for emergency/urgent type messages since there were times Le Remedium would page her in. And sure enough, that blaring alarm had her eyes flashing wide open, gazing towards the communicae.
Her body, which had been floating in the air, was lowered and she uncrossed her legs smoothly as she stood to do so. A step or two had her to the comm unit and she quickly read the entry.
"Oh.."
She knew what that meant. She had been anticipating that as a possibility. Quickly typing Camron back a message that she was on her way, she then called Dr. Lee. She briefly explained Leuni's situation and told him of the message Camron just sent her.
"I see.." he replied. "Do you think this Camron feels she's suicidal?"
"It's possible he may be anticipating it from her. I don't see her doing that, but then I'm not there. I also don't know the full extent of her parents.. but from what she tells me, it's been a burden on her for a long time. She's a bit stubborn. Hopefully not too stubborn. Although, I anticipate we might want to consider moving them tonight... especially if you bring Leuni in. They'll likely need someone around to care for them."
"All right. I'll get a team and we'll meet you out there, examine the situation and go from there. I'll have to treat it initially as a possible suicidal concern." he informed her.
"I understand..."
Closing out the screen, it was only a few minutes before she made her own arraingements for her son's care. Then she was running out of the Enclave on her way to Leuni's place..... |

She watched Cam move to the comm unit while she sat there and blew her nose. The answer beeped back, she could hear its signal and knew Cam had sent a text message instead. It seemed curious but she shrugged it off. Her attention was then directed elsewhere. A buzzer sounded from the bedroom. Leun sighed and moved without hesitation into the room to see to her father's needs.
"He poohed himself again!" it was her mother beginning her rant as Leun came into the room. "Been sittin in it all day! Where have you been?!"
Leun knew it wasn't all day and had just, within the last twenty minutes, been done. "I'll take care of it. Here, wave the magic wand and it'll smell better."
"But it smells bad!" her mother ranted.
"I said I'll take care of it! Now play with the wand!" Leun snapped.
Then she handed her mother a small scent wand adn that seemed to occupy the elder's imagination while she waved it around her, letting the scent clean the other scent. Pooh was soon covered by the scent of Elirian vanilla blossoms.
"It's okay, Papi.. I'll get you cleaned up."
Leun proceeded to clean her father up, sprouting quiet tears while her father's only attempt at communication was a belch. She hardly got the mess cleaned when her mother's preoccupation with the wand diminished.
"I'm hungry. We got any soup?"
Sigh. "Chicken, Bean, Lupin tou seed or vegetable rice?"
"I want Chilli! Nice thick Etonese Chilli Cho soup! Why you never give me what I want? Huh? You hate me! Why you hate me so much? Cause I give you life? You shouldn't deny your mother so. I want chilli!"
"You can't have chilli, Mother. You're allergic to the peppers. How about some Lupin tou seed soup? It's a little spicey."
"Liar! You lie! You just want to poison me! And don't call me mother! I not you mother! I don't even know who the hell you are!!"
The elder woman threw the scent stick at Leun, then the pillow, followed by the glass of water beside the bed, which shattered aganst the far wall... and then proceeded to flail her arms, kicking her feet and hitting Leun's father beside her. "Get out! Get out!"
After dodging the thrown arsenal, she dropped the dirty diaper to the floor, she moved about to the other side, trying to grab her mother's arms, drag her out of the bed and keep her from hurting her father.
"Aaahhhhh!" Leun couldn't take it any more and began to scream back. "Stop it! Just stop it! You're hurting him!"
"Get out of my house! I call security!!!"
"Mother please! STop it!! Just stop!!"
Leun gave one mighty tug. The two women flopped to the floor, Leuni practically giving up the fight as tears came again. Her mother still had the fight in her, kicking and hitting at Leun now. Leun just took it... covering her head with her arms.. and cried. And the father? Totally oblivious. |

Camron listened to what was going on in the other room while he watched out through the small window in the door, looking for signs of Sha'uri's arrival. He hoped Sha'uri hurried up, especially as the voices began to raise within the bedroom. Several times he glanced back that he had to stop himself from going in. But when the glass smashed against the wall.. that was it.
He unlocked the front door and opened it just a small bit, then moved into the bedroom just as Leuni began to cry again. He was swift to seperate the two, mother and daughter, pulling Leun away from her mother's hurtful grasp while putting himself between them.
"Enough! Misses Dokara! I am Security! Now, Stop hurting your daughter!"
Camron had a very commanding voice when he needed one. He was also a very tall and well built half Rumon half Etonese. He stole a glance back to Leuni and his voice softened.
"Are you all right?"
He listened for her answer while switching his gaze back on Leun's mother. He had a very intimidating expression, gaze narrowed marked by furrowed brows. His tones were less harsh, calm even, but still commanding nonetheless.
"You should settle down, relax.... let me take her out of here so I can bring you some .. soup. Vegetable rice is a good choice. It's a very good choice. In fact, I think you should try it. Don't you?"
He was playing up her screams for security and trying to use that to the advantage, hoping that would settle her down some. |
