Lemnos

At first glance, the original explorers of Areios Zeta thought they had hit the motherlode with Lemnos — an earth sized planet, at the right distance from the sun, with an oxygen heavy atmoshpere. At second glance, they were sorely disappointed. Conditions at the surface, while somewhat survivable, are hardly hospitable. A constant 40-50 kph wind scours the parched surface filling the air with dust and grit. The sandy soil contains large proportion of arsenous oxide, so the whole planet smells faintly of garlic and breathing in the dust filled air without a filter can be fatal if done for extended perious of time. There is no ground water to be found anywhere, and consequently no plant life. Surprisingly, one indigenous animal was discovered. Scientists have yet to figure out how it evolved or survives, as there does not seem to be any source of food or water for it on the planet. It is, however, extremely agressive, possibly sentient and visitors to the planet should stay within the establish compounds. It was named the Barghest, after the explorer who discovered it and, ironically, became it's first victim. This planet's resemblance to some peoples visions of Hades only helped solidify Areios Zeta's nickname, "Hell's Doorstep."

Because of these drawbacks, Lemnos was originally passed over for use in favor of it's much friendlier moon, Gaia Eiridis. It was not until a detailed spectrographic analysis was done of the surface of the planet, revealing large pockets of mineral deposts, that it was viewed once more as a valuable resource and Jay'arks Spaders moved in to set up mining facilities. This also precipitated GIM's interest in the system.
