OOC History of Pharos Station

In late 2004 the ground work for what would become Dragon's Mark was being laid. The vision of Dragon's Mark was to put together the premiere place for free form role-play and creative writing on the web. Dragon's Mark opened to the public in June of 2005 with the Red Dragon Inn as it's first RP setting.

By the time Dragon's Mark was a year old it was clearly a success, surpassing nearly all expectations. Now was the time to start work on the next addition. After a number of options were looked at, it was decided a sci-fi should be developed.

After exploring some different ideas, a setting initially developed by Barbara Hare, the Galactic Trading Consortium, would be expanded on and brought to life. The initial development was moving a bit slow. The work involved was overshadowed by the time and resources available.

Then in late 2006, KC was brought in as the director of what was to be The Galactic Core. By the end of 2006 great strides were made towards making this new concept a reality, however as 2007 began it became clear that the scope of ths setting was just to grand of scale to meet the needs and wants for Dragon's Mark newest offering.

After some brainstorming, the groundwork for a new concept was outlined and in just a few weeks the framework was in place and Pharos Station was well on its way to becoming a reality. Many things that were being developed for GTC, such as NPCs, Ship Registries, as well as online features such as the "casino gaming" and shops were usable in the new setting, so the focus could be on the underlying concept and in character history information. This meant the delay caused by switching gears was actually quite minimal in the grand scheme of things.

Sometimes things just "click." That is what happened at this point. Everything just started falling in to place, and Pharos Station opened to the public in March of 2007.
