History: Very little is known about the Sangune. They did not make an appearance into the social strata until humans began exploring NGC-666 late in 2808. It was not until 2902 that it was discovered that the Sangune were a hybrid species consisting of a human host and a symbiont. Fear of the Sangune caused four different wars that, each time, ended abruptly without treaties.

Comments: The symbiont cannot use the Anaoen, Garian, Etonese, Icesoran, Lothu or Shashogrin as hosts but does well in an Human, Kiyan, or Z'rithi host. Data for other known races is spotty at best. Tell-tale signs of the symbiont's presence include a paler than normal complexion and a reddish tone in the whites of the hosts eyes. A Sangune can consume species normal foods but the symbiont requires blood for nourishment. Being bitten by a Sangune does not mean the victim will become a Sangune. The victim must be injected in order for the symbiont to infest them. A Sangune produces offspring in the same manner that the host produced offspring prior to being infested. Offspring produced in this manner are born infested with the symbiont and enjoy a low level of telepathy/empathy with their mother.
Other Notes: ONLY SANGUNE CHARACTERS KNOW THIS: The Sangune allow the Polynai symbiont to reproduces by injecting the symbiont's offspring directly into the blood stream of the intended host. A Sangune must allow the Polynai symbiont to reproduce once every seven to ten standard years. If a Sangune does not release the offspring from the canine glands, the glands can rupture and release the symbiont's offspring into the Sangune's own bloodstream which will kill the Sangune. During this 'mating' period (known as the Blood Rage), a Sangune becomes singularly focused on symbiont procreation. Once infested, the new host goes through a period of 'Conversion' where the hosts body experiences changes that allow for heightened hearing, strength, reflexes and healing. This is a painful process. If the host survives the change (a good number do not) the host becomes aware of a certain level of 'knowledge' as it pertains to the symbiont — almost like whispers in the head. Once the conversion is complete, this 'whisper' goes away and never returns. Sangune who are born, instead of being bitten, do not go through the 'Conversion' although they possess the 'knowledge' passed to them from their mothers symbiont. Offspring experience fewer instances of the Blood Rage and have a high rate of infertility - meaning Offspring often are unable to bear children of their own.
